Tapeo wasn't invented in cookbooks but at the bar: standing up, tapa on a small plate and conversation at half voice. This route strings together five bars that have spent generations perfecting the same thing: El Rinconcillo (1670), Alfalfa, Casa Morales, Bodeguita Romero and Las Columnas. Under ten minutes between bars: the walk matters less than what you order at each stop.
The route
Apartamento Esencia Sevilla
Route starting point. Leave the apartment towards the first stop.
El Rinconcillo (1670)
Seville's oldest bar: tiles, barrels and waiters who tally with chalk.
Tip: Order spinach with chickpeas and a pavía (fried cod). At the bar, always standing.
Bar Alfalfa
The city's liveliest corner: salmorejo bruschetta and international atmosphere.
Tip: Plaza de la Alfalfa is the meeting point: bars, terraces and life until late.
Casa Morales (1836)
Wine cellar with giant clay vats and a marble counter that smells of history.
Tip: Iberian cured meats and the house wine. The vats at the back are 19th-century.
Bodeguita Antonio Romero
Temple of the pringá montadito and carrillá (pork cheek). Small, loud and perfect.
Tip: The piripi (pork loin with bacon, cheese and tomato) is their cult montadito.
Bodega Santa Cruz (Las Columnas)
The most authentic bar by the Cathedral: €2 montaditos and perfectly poured beer.
Tip: Perfect end of route: with the illuminated Giralda behind you and a pringá montadito.
